10 Years of Heart of Sound: Raising the Bar for Sound Yoga Therapy Worldwide

This year marks a milestone: 10 years since the first cohort of Heart of Sound teacher trainees gathered to immerse themselves in the transformative practice of nāda yoga and mantra-based healing in Rishikesh, India!

Since then, hundreds of graduates have carried the essence of this lineage-rooted, heart-centered training into the world—into yoga studios, trauma recovery centers, refugee camps, hospitals, cancer wards, classrooms, and homes.

And in this tenth year, we want to give a shoutout to the diversity and ingenuity of our trainees! It's inspiring and humbling to acknowledge just how far the reverberations of the Heart of Sound - the world's first and only 200/500 hour certified sound yoga teacher training - has reached.

As part of their final practicum, each student designs and delivers a real-world offering that integrates everything they’ve learned—not only technique and tradition, but empathy, presence, and skillful holding of space. The result? A stunning spectrum of classes and workshops that raise the bar for what “sound healing” can be.

Trainees in Japan learn Heart of Sound training in Japanese, and in Germany, in German language.

Here’s a glimpse of the magic our 10 years of trainees has brought to life:

Mantra & Sacred Sound

Trainees are sharing ancient practices with respectful, informed offerings like:

These aren’t just singalongs—they're sacred medicine songs with refined Sanskrit pronunciation offered with humility, devotion, and purpose.

Vocal Nāda Yoga & Toning

Voice is the medicine we each have within us —and our students know how to deliver it in a trauma-informed, interoceptive way that really gets to the heart of sound yoga therapy:

  • Vocal Toning for Voice Trauma

  • Embrace Your Voice Vibration through Meditative Toning and Mantra

  • Vocal Resonance as a path of Self-Love

  • Free Your Voice Using Sargam Improv

  • Vocal Yoga for Total Beginners

From grounding breathwork to rāga-based vocal warmups, these offerings deepen the connection between sound, body, and awareness and provide a beginner-friendly introduction to the yoga of sound (nāda yoga) that has been shared by our graduates at countless wellness festivals, gatherings, yoga teacher trainings, TED talks, academic research facilities, and symposiums worldwide!

Sound Therapies for Mental Health & Emotional Healing

Trauma-informed sound practices are at the heart of our curriculum, and our students put that wisdom into action:

  • Sound Empowerment for Depression

  • Uplifting Spirits for PTSD

  • Overcoming Fear through Love, Embodied as Sound

  • Cradling the Mind with Gentle Mantras for Anxiety

  • Mantra Chanting for Anxiety and Depression

In these settings, sound becomes a lifeline—a way to soothe, self-regulate, and reconnect.

End-of-Life & Cancer Support

Mantra and sound provide powerful support through life’s transitions:

  • A Sound Companion on Your Cancer Journey

  • Sound Healing for Cancer Patients

  • Life Transitions: Preparing to Dissolve back into Awareness through mantra

  • Finding Bliss Within / Śivā Consciousness

With grace and sensitivity, these students brought their own professional backgrounds into their work with sound and mantra to provide peace, presence, and spiritual depth to the threshold of dying.

Men's and Women’s Healing & Empowerment

Students held space for all gender identities to reclaim their voice, power, and presence:

  • Nāda Yoga for Women Who Have Experienced Domestic Violence

  • MAN-tra: Sound Meditation for Dudes

  •  Durga and Rebuilding Inner Strength

  • Nāda Yoga & Mantra Workshop for Women to Find Their Inner Voice

  • Both/And: Union of the Self Identity through Tantrik Sound Practices

Whether processing trauma or simply reconnecting with joy, these sound spaces were deeply nurturing and liberating for all who seek empowerment to find their voice, speak their needs, and set boundaries with grace.

Inner Connection & Self-Love

Inspired by their own experience of the profound depths of the Heart of Sound through out their 200 or 500 hours of training, many trainee practicum offerings focused on gently guiding participants inward:

  • Dissolving into Softness through Sound

  • Come Into Your Heart: Mantra Meditation for Inner Tuning

  • Connecting with Our Inner Voice

  • Discovering the Self-Shining Voice, the Unique Tone That You Are

  • Self-Soothe with Sacred Sound

In a world that pulls us outward with endless scrolling distractions, these sessions created a sacred pause to remember who we really are.

Spiritual Sound Yoga Practice

For those exploring subtle energy and deeper metaphysical states:

  • Aum – The Yoga of Sound

  • The 5 Kośas and Sound Medicine

  • Listen In, Become Love: Meditation with Sound

  • Understanding the Guru Principle through Deeper Awareness

  • Sound Meditation with Voice, Harmonium & Cello

This is the soul work of sound yoga: vibrational tuning, energetic alignment, and inner stillness.

Sound for Special Populations

Trauma-informed. Audience-sensitive. Culturally aware. These standout offerings made sound accessible to all:

  • Fun Sound Session for Kids in Foster Care

  • Vocal Toning for People with Lyme Disease

  • Mindful Listening in Corporate Environments

  • Self-Love through Sound for Caregivers
