Â
For mantra lovers, sound healers, chant leaders, yoga teachers, singers and absolutely-not-musicians⊠anyone who wants to feel the full therapeutic power of sound in your own body, embraced in a supportive group container.
Youâve found the most comprehensive sound healing yoga training in the world, offered hybrid in-person + online.
27 years of teaching. 500+ graduates in 65+ countries. The proof is in what our grads are doing.
As if the power of LOVE itself is singing through you, both bigger than you and totally you, at the same time.
You can finally feel the safety (the confidence!) that you know what, how, and why you're chanting the Sanskrit mantra that touched your soul. Its sweet sound is precisely rolling off your tongue and you're absorbed in the sensation of every syllable, throat vibrating cleanly with every tone.
Youâre marinating in ViĆuddha Cakra, the perfectly clear resonance that emanates effortlessly when a mantra yogÄ« has invested time and care into skill.
Without Sanskrit skill or vocal pleasure, devotional chanting remains either flat or loops endlessly just short of fullness.
Strained and striving, not plump and juicy :(
The best part of our program? Everyone in the room is on the same journey, whether itâs in Zoom or you are in person at your bucket list location.
Together, we're attuning to the Heart of Sound which is the life behind our very own pulse. We're all perfectly imperfect, as we loose the chains of rigid perfectionism and comparison we've accidentally inherited from yoga traditions.
SOUNDS AMAZING! TELL ME MORE. FREE PREP COURSE"Your online course is beyond amazing and has been such a lifeline during this challenging year!"
Ultimately, Heart of Sound training will empower you to LIVE A MORE MUSICAL WAY OF BEING IN THE WORLD. With yourself, your beloveds, your community, and those you serve.

A 200-hour YTT here, a sound ceremony certification there. Bowls, gongs and tuning forks with three different teachers. Harmonium off YouTube at 11pm.
Yet somehow it doesn't cohere.
One of our students put it better than I could:
"I'd taken a lot of smaller courses but couldn't place it together into something I felt credible enough to offer. I didn't know if my knowledge was really legit, until now."
You don't need more information. You need the through-line â the context, and those missing practical skills that bring confident embodiment.
People tell us weekly they wish they'd found us sooner. The other courses were a gateway drug into your passion for sound, yay! But youâre paying for the coherence gap in money, in years, and in the nagging suspicion that there's more...
Here, the golden thread of sound yoga stitches it all together, and your collected wisdom finally gets a spine that can hold up through the toughest challenges in your life.
A note on words: you may have arrived searching "sound healing." Here, we say nÄda yoga and Sanskrit mantra. Same transformation, different words â and your focus is welcome exactly as it is.
YOU NAILED IT! SIGN ME UP.Yes, you learn to chant Sanskrit mantra properly. To play harmonium. To lead chant sessions, kÄ«rtan, nÄda yoga, etc.
But the real gold of the Heart of Sound is the integrity. The profound inner coherence. The radical life-shift into your authentic voice. Your musical Self, shining!
Â
Honestly, I developed the Heart of Sound training because it was what I was looking for my whole life, but never found. I studied music since I was 10 and went to India seeking "enlightenment" when I was 19âŠ
Here's me, just before I shaved my head and went to the HimÄlayas and lived in an ÄĆram in India for the first time in 1997. Where I met mantra and learned there was an approach to music that led to wholeness in the Divine (not the musical performance I had been trained in).
I spent 2 decades of my life and got myself into tens of thousands of dollars of debt, passionately trying to penetrate into a direct experience of the Divine!
I found teachers who held pieces of the Sanskrit, mantra, and nÄda yoga puzzle, but no one who embodied the whole-being, embodied mystic approach that made my heart sing.
Forever grateful to those teachers (my music teacher Pandit Baldev Raj Verma, my Sanskrit teachers Swami Uttamananda and Dharma Widman) and many more.
Yet I found myself often disappointed, with the disjointed bits I was digesting. I'd go to classical music concerts almost every night during the Delhi winters and listen to musicians with incredible rÄga skills, coated with a thick slather of performance ego. I'd go to ÄĆrams and hear the inspiring philosophical talk, but when I observed the walk it was screeching with hypocrisy.
In 2014, at the urging of my teachers and mentors, and with their hearty blessings and support, I created the Heart of Sound.
So I started teaching from the role my mentors appointed me to â a bridge between the East and West â helping the global chant community identify blind spots of cultural appropriation and bring in greater reverence for tradition⊠while simultaneously trying to avoid the dogmatic approach that has turned GenZ Indians off of "tradition."
We're unwinding trauma, not unwittingly piling on more.
It's all centered around one thing: EMPOWERMENT.
I teach the sound and mantra skills so that you can penetrate to the heart of sound yourself, and unleash the cascade of benefits that a resonant sound body brings.
12 hour days, packed with a decade worth of learning, Sanskrit and harmonium and voice and leadership skills you can never hope to master before having to do your final chant leadership practice just a month after we met.
Time stress.
Social comparison.
Simply not enough time to accommodate every learning pace & style.
Too much input, outside of your real life rhythm where embodiment counts.
Add in a foreign country thatâs overpopulated, polluted, and unsafe for women and hey, thatâs a perfect recipe for trauma bonding!
Â
Online only, on your own, fails differently. Module after module, furiously studying books and videos, or practicing alone in your room the entire time.Â
Nobody to chant with.
Nobody to catch the mispronunciation you've been repeating for years.
Nobody to point out that your harmonium technique is distracting from your heartfelt kīrtan.
To the hundreds of students I trained before we went online in 2020: I am sorry. Truly, deeply remorseful that you got only a tiny fraction of the:
Even the chant experiences during those pre-2020 were subpar to what we're doing now!
We'll NEVER GO BACK to the brutal pace, inequality, and stress of 100% in-person learning.
Embody the teachings at the pace of life, not comparing yourself with anyone else.
Â
Â
Â
Since 2014 I've done the training all in person. All online. The level of coherence we get on day 2 of a retreat (since trainees study skills online first) used to take me 12-20 days in person, if we ever managed to get there.
We cracked the code, so you get the best of both worlds:
You study at your own pace, with 1:1 mentorship for exactly where you are â not a grueling cohort schedule that doesn't know your life. You arrive at the retreat already grounded in the material, not cramming the night before. And when you go home, the mentorship doesn't stop at the airport.
Our hybrid course is the structural support you need to unravel perfectionism's grip, and lean into sustained pleasure.
You Let's go straight at it, because you're thinking it. (No matter which end of the âperformanceâ pendulum youâre on!)
"Sometimes my inner critic says⊠oh, youâre not a professional singer, youâre not a musician⊠are you really sure that you can go there and not be judged?""One of my biggest hangups is the sound of my voice. I was a professional opera singer and I canât sing without constantly critiquing and correcting myself. The joy was trained out of me and it makes me so sad."
Real people. Said out loud to us, before they enrolled. Both of them now hold certifications and are sharing therapeutic sound yoga chant sessions with their communities.
Here's the whole answer, and it's a simply radical value that we doggedly stick to:
It does not matter what your voice sounds like to anyone else. It matters how it feels in you.
That isn't a kindness I'm extending to you, or a platitude. It's the actual technology. Sacred sound is alive with listening. It expresses through your own natural voice. Your voice is for the pleasure of the Infinite alone â and the Infinite is not sitting there with a clipboard.
We are not training performers. Weâre training the comparative performance mentality out of you, so you can experience the joy of communion whenever you want it, and help others find their own therapeutic relationship with sound and mantra.Â
It's truly a safe space for musicians and non-musicians alike.
Chant and sing with newfound nuance. Digest the learning materials. Study at home, while on walks, on the train, etc.
Youâre never alone in it: hop on to sing Indian classical scales with Anandra, check-in on your tricky tongue placements, test out your new kÄ«rtan repertoire in a chant experiment.Â
Youâre in a thread with the other chanters doing this alongside you, with direct access to Anandra way before you ever set foot on retreat, so you arrive enfolded in warmth.
The effervescent joy of a Heart of Sound chant experience with Anandra, when the room is full of people who have 50â200â1,000+ hours of training themselves, is LIKE NOTHING YOU'VE EVER EXPERIENCED BEFORE.
Bring your kleenex, and your journal, because you'll be shedding tears of joy and scribbling "a-ha" moments from your direct experience during our chant sessions.
Relax and connect with fascinating new mantra nerd friends from all over the world. Guaranteed the hive mind will inspire you, and open up new possibilities for your life!
Letâs chant together in person, for the sheer joy of it!
RETREAT SCHEDULE"I just wanted to express my deep gratitude to you for the enormous love, dedication, and quality of your teachings. I come away from module to graduation with not only more skills, but a deeper sense of connection and trust in my own inner teacher to light my path! This heart of sound journey has been an important milestone in my spiritual and creative development, and I still feel I am only just touching the tip of the iceberg!"
You've signed up for online courses and not even looked at them, right? Yah me too. No shame!
Hereâs whatâs different here, and you can decide whether it's enough:
There's a date in your diary, online and in person.
Self-paced study has one weakness, and it's that nothing is ever due. The training calendar refreshes weekly, with chances to hop into various classes and chant sessions. Having a retreat to look forward to gives you a reason to get your Sanskrit foundations into your body before you get on the plane, or work up your final practicum to deliver in person if thatâs where youâre at.
The hours you spend in the room count towards your certification.
The retreat is not a lovely detour from the training. Every group practice and study buddy session on the lawn is progress on the thing you came for.
It's yours for life.
For as long as we're in business, you keep all of it â the group practice archive, the mantra research archive, the songbooks, every live call. And it keeps GROWING. We add new material and existing students get it, free, forever. Compare that with a 30-day in-person training where you fly home and lose the lot.
And if life throws you for a loop halfway through?
Come back when you're ready. Thereâs no clock running, no cohort leaving without you, no expiry on any of it.
THAT'S THE ONE I'LL FINISHAnd what that means in the classroom:
First, the only question that actually matters
200 or 500 â which one am I choosing?
The advanced 500 hour training is offered for brand-new students to the Heart of Sound.
The foundational 200hr course is included in the 500hr course.
Most people who arrive already holding a lot of training go straight to the 500, because it's the one that gathers everything. The 200 is the right call if you'd rather start smaller â and you can upgrade later without losing a cent of what you've paid.
Then, how you want to do it

"I knew the course was of great quality but if I am to be honest, it has already exceeded my expectations! :-) I started with the 200-hour course but have now opted for the 500-hour instead."Â Â - George Gilmour, Retired Opera Singer and 500HR TT student, Australia
Â
"I've done lots of online courses and I've never seen anything like the Heart of Sound 500hr teacher training! The quality and quantity is amazing. I have a lifetime of learning at my fingertips, and the regular schedule of live classes, practices gives me a real feeling of community."Â - Emma Flick, Musician, Mom, Retreat Center Owner/Chef, Australia
Â
"This online training was the answer to my prayers. As a business owner who had to pivot online with four children at home during the lockdown phase of the pandemic, I jumped at the chance to attend! The structure helped me maintain a practice that grounded & nourished me even with the chaos of a busy household. (Truthfully, I sang the alphabet while washing dishes!) It was a balm to my soul, a source of inspiration... and as an Indian American, it provided much-needed connection with a modern, global family of mantra lovers!"Â - Marla Mangla Pelletier, Owner at InwardOffice.com, USA
"It was such a life-changing moment when I realized this training is everything I could have wished for (and then some đ)! I have really found it to work surprisingly well online. The practice has already changed my life in such deep ways, and I have no doubt that it will continue unfolding in both my internal and external life. I can't wait to share the therapeutic power of sound with my clients."Â - Avilou Sephoura Eveliina SĂžby, Therapist, Denmark
Â
"The depth of the Heart of Sound practices really blew my mind. To have such a supportive course structure and community creates a phenomenally safe space. I have the tools I need to develop a practice to exist more mindfully in the world."-Â Jason Stotz, Dancer, USA
Â
"You know you are in the presence of a great teacher when you feel every cell in your body resonate with joy. Anandra taught me to connect to that deep place and meet my true self for the first time. What I appreciate most about her teaching method is the quality level of the education, which is very rare to find within her field."Â -Zena El Khalil, Senior TED Fellow, Artist, and Peace Activist, Lebanon
The whole core curriculum is online, self-paced â Sanskrit sounds anatomy, therapeutic mantra, Äyurvedic sound principles, vocal coaching, rÄga-based kÄ«rtan leadership, Tantrik philosophy. The retreat is the in-person half: group practice, chanting for the sheer joy of it, and trying your leadership skills out on each other. No foundational lectures or basic skills classes are taught during the retreat. That's deliberate â we used to cram a decade of learning into 12-hour days and it was cruel.
No. Every retreat has a private-room option, and every retreat has an offsite list of places nearby, with prices, that we'll send you.
Start online now and come to a later retreat. The training doesn't expire and neither does your place in it.
You don't have to. Buy now, start when you're ready â there's no clock and no cohort. Several of our students bought, dealt with a house move or a diagnosis, and picked up six months later exactly where they'd left off.
A lot of people who love mantra are quietly planning a trip to India they haven't booked. The flights, the visa, the navigating, trying to work out from a website which school is the real thing and which will disappoint you. And for some of you there's a further calculation on top of that one, about travelling alone, that other people don't have to make.
I spent over a decade of my life doing exactly that, mostly the hard way. I have the relationships, I know the institutions, I know which doors open. So you don't have to work it out alone. You come with us.
No. Genuinely no. This training was developed by a musician, for non-musicians â and some of the people who get the most out of it arrive convinced they're tone deaf.
No notes, no theory prerequisite. There are certification requirements and you'll be asked to demonstrate what you've learned â but nobody is graded on how pretty they sound.Â
No. About half our students have one. You don't need to own an instrument to begin.
It's a real question, and a good one! Chanting mantra with reverence, accuracy, and an honest relationship to where it came from is not appropriation. Chanting it carelessly while claiming a lineage you don't have is a different matter. At the end of the training you'll have a personal relationship to mantra, with a throughline to lineage.
A mix of genders, and often women. A good spread of ages and nationalities â students from 65+ countries, including South Asian and diaspora students, in every cohort. If you're worried you'll be the only one like you there, ask us before you book and we'll tell you the truth about who's coming.
As long as we're in business. Some folks get their 200HR within 3 months, some take 3 years. We are happy this training flexes with your real life and it's ups and downs, so you have support and community throughout.
YES! Plans up to 24 months, and extra long in some cases if you need it. Be sure to read the fine print on payment issues and cancellation.
See Retreats page for details per retreat. Mostly vegan and gluten free is our general preference, with some meals out so you can do as you please.
If thatâs your takeaway, my lifeâs mission is done! LOL. Honestly, I get up in the morning and am inspired every day to help people connect to sound and mantra the way I always wish someone had done for me, when I first fell in love with mantra in 1997. There was so much I didnât know that I didnât know, and Iâd have saved myself decades and so much money and grueling heartbreak if I had the Heart of Sound back then.
If you think what Iâve synthesized can help you personally, or in your professional leadership capacity, at least get on a call to discover if itâs right for you. (Weâll tell you if itâs not!)
The door is open when you're ready, and there's a room full of sound nerds on the other side who love this as much as you do.
